Sung Jae Park

Sung Jae Park is a doctoral candidate at the the Florida State University College of Communication & Information. He received his M.A. degree in Library and Information Science and a B.A. in Sociology and LIS from Yonsei University in Korea. His thesis topic was on the optimal site selection for public libraries in urban areas using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

After completing his Master’s degree he took part in various research projects and worked as an instructor. The research projects included understanding science and technology information behavior and user needs of industry, academics, and research communities; designing of web-based Nursing Information System project; consulting for a retrieval system of the Korean Intellectual Property Office; and a study on collaboration between school, academic, and public libraries. As an instructor he taught Library and Information Searching and Practice at Anyang University and Practice of Computer Graphic at Daelim College.

Currently, he is interested in several public library issues and space concepts. In particular, his interest in Library as Place prompts him to want to investigate the social significance of libraries. This topic connects library and information science with geography and sociology, in that social relationships among people in the library are studied in the context of geographical space. His interest, in particular, focuses on the geographical perspective of social relationships in libraries. He would like to analyze these relationships by using Geographic Information System (GIS) and research methods in social science.

Janet Capps

Janet Capps is a doctoral candidate at the Florida State University College of Communication & Information. Her dissertation, EL-Capstone: An Emergent Literacy Concept Inventory, will provide an instrument that may be used to gather information of emergent literacy core knowledge levels of practitioners. She has taught beginning and advanced courses in electronic multimedia design & production and in project management. Janet’s has served as a research assistant for both a National Science Foundation grant and a Department of Education Comprehensive School Reform grant. Her research interests are centered on technology innovations in information delivery/retrieval and learning environments and include the areas of literacy and literacy behaviors (i.e., information, technology, and early childhood), information/knowledge inventories, information processing and eye movement control, and Library and Information Science education. Janet serves as President of Beta Phi Mu, Gamma Chapter and as an editorial assistant/project manager for the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science.
